Revised CHANGELOG.txt - Ashcroft Makers Kit 30 November 2021 Changed on this release: New documentation set Revised Cylinder Models for all sizes Alternative Thumb Nut with scaled thread in case your printer prints threads too large, filename is AM_CSM_Yarn_Thumb_Nut_part8_e_scaled_thread.stl Revised - stronger Yarn Foot - part 8 A Revised - added numbers to Cast On Bonnet Tops Revised - improved Cylinder tops to avoid dropped stitches - caused by print artefacts after slicing 18 December 2021 Fixed - 56 slot cylinder has a missing slot and vane - an error caused by the rendering export process, regrettably this wasn't picked up in (re)building the 3MF files. We've checked all the other Cylinder exports, the exports include all the previous tweaks to stop the yarn catching on the cylinder top and dropping stitches as a result. Revised - the 30T gear is printed inside down, so that the printed top surface is what you see when using the machine - its smooth and looks nicer, unfortunately, printing teeth down causes problems with the finish of the teeth corners and sometimes the shrinkage on the corners 'just looks bad'. Inspired by MakersMuse, we tried printing a gear with sacrificial tubes to lift the gear off the print surface, it seems to work and getting the support material off the inside of the gear is easier. We also spotted an issue with the clearance around the M3 Nyloc nut when using the provided spanner because the 5.5 slot is at the end of the spanner - so the relief around the nut furthest away from the centre of the gear is now much bigger, so the spanner will fit more easily to the nut whilst you are tightening it up. 24 June 2022 Changed on this release: New documentation set Revised Cylinder Models for all sizes Alternative Thumb Nut with scaled thread in case your printer prints threads too large, filename is AM_CSM_Yarn_Thumb_Nut_part8_e_scaled_thread.stl Revised - stronger Yarn Foot - part 8 A Revised - added numbers to Cast On Bonnet Tops Revised - improved Cylinder tops to avoid dropped stitches - caused by print artefacts after slicing Revised Jan 2022 - Improved bracket; Alternate tensioner arm mount using 40mm hex bolt and M5 nut replacing printed screw, thumb nut has recess for M5 nut; Replacement peg for foot - part 8f [identical to Row counter captive peg, part of Part 12_e], additional nut Part 8g Updated Fixings List with additional nut and M5x40 bolt; Number of slots printed inside the cylinder; Revised June 2022 - Improved casing markings for cam positions, improved edge finish on numerous components, revised print settings on 60T gear - changed layer height to 0.2, and selection of adaptive layers, changed infill to Gyroid. Reduced print speeds on Cylinder outer walls to minimise corner rounding. Revised April 2023 - Merged first ribber models and 3MF files Revised June 2023 - Final ribber models and 3MF files, include CSM and Ribber User Guides, added new Ribber Kit Assembly instructions Replaced cylinder models with latest versions, including version label, thinned top dividing 'vanes' on 68 and 72 slot count cylinders Revised Ribber mounting brackets to replace CSM cam clips Revised 30T pinion, tidied up and improved Changed all dates on new and updated components Changed mounting bracket - shortening the central pillar in the socket, add a tapered washer which fits TIGHTLY into the socket on the Housing, uses the same screw, but eliminates clearance in the assembly, reducing movement. Realigned the switch recess in the bracket to improve switch sensitivity and prevent 'double counting' Modified the 60T gear, replacing the magnet recess with a groove to indicate magnet position, to prevent 'double counting', you will find the magnet needs to be right at the edge of the flat closest to the outside of the gear, almost overhanging the bevel. Some of these modifications derived from the changes needed to make a similar bracket work with the Ashcroftmakers Circular HAT knitting machine, so have been backported to the CSM bracket. Revised July 2023 Alternative pigtail [tapered arm for tensioner, part 8_C], separated from rest of Part 8 and moved to separate file - reason is layer height reduced to 0.12mm - printing the taper horizontally with a large layer height creates steps, end changed from round to rounded corner hexagon. October 2023 Revised pigtail for better printing, revised beam, also. 26mm ribber beam spacer removed - never used. December 2023 Version bumped with revised dates on components. March 2024 Revised Ribber mounting system using one 60mm hex screw and revised spacers, locking onto the bolt which comes from the bottom ribber knob up to the removal knob. Refer to assembly image in the root folder of the USB Stick named AM_RIBBER_ASSEMBLY_V2024_1.png which shows the long screw, note the screw is fully threaded [otherwise it would be a bolt :-)]. ADDENDUM TO MAKE / BUILD INSTRUCTIONS: Print Part 2A - a tapered circular wedge, during final assembly of the bracket and housing, use the countersunk screw which in the instructions passes through the peg in the bracket. Put the screw through the wedge and put the screw into the shortened peg and tighten after putting the housing block into the socket on the top of the bracket. The wedge should pass into the socket in the housing and pull the assembly together, eliminating movement resulting from the clearance between peg and socket. As long as the peg is level [or close to level] with the top of the mounting block on the housing that will be sufficient to complete the assembly. N.B. This component is not shown in the parts list or photographs of the main Kit Instructions document. If you need to dismantle the machine all you need to do is remove the screw and the 50mm cap bolts - the wedge can remain in place. Ashcroftmakers updates and revises the CSM based on our experience of making them and the feedback of customers, our objective is to make a machine that knits and to have happy, contented sock knitters whether you have purchased a finished machine or a kit.
